  • What sets Creativerse apart from similar games?

The game is still in a very early stage right now. It's just got the basics of exploration, adventure, and creation. The key is what it is going to become during its time in early access and beyond. We’ve got a lot planned, and we’ll be releasing regular updates with new features and improvements. In reality, we are just huge voxel game fanboys/girls and we want to try and create the ultimate version of it.

With that in mind, there are several ways Creativerse currently differentiates itself...

    No-hassle multiplayer

    • Easily connect and play with your friends in whatever world you want — no server setup required.
    • See which of your Steam friends are online and what world they're in.
    • Join any world in Creativerse by searching for it (though you can keep your worlds private with passwords).

    Free to play

    • There are many voxel-esque games, but very few of them are free to play.
    • That’s one fewer excuse your friends have for not joining you in your world.

    RPG-lite crafting system

    • Simple interface with recipe based crafting means there’s no need to dig through a wiki to figure out how to make something.
    • “Level up" your crafting ability by making new items, allowing you to choose which high-end recipes to focus on.
    • Rare dropped recipes let you specialize in unique crafting abilities your friends don't have.

    Unique, beautiful environments

    • High quality textures, lighting, shadows, and animations, plus more than a dozen surface biomes, create a rich, vibrant world to explore.
    • Subterranean biomes offer unique environmental challenges, a variety of creatures, and increasingly rarer treasure, making the journey below full of twists and turns.

    Miscellaneous Highlights

    • Strategic combat - Every mob has a special ability, like Warmworm's lava fountain or Pisgy's catapult attack.
    • Teleportation system - A personal touchstone means you'll never be lost, plus craftable teleporters allow you to truly explore and master the world.
    • Death Statues - When you die, your inventory is preserved in special death statues that are marked on your compass. Never lose your stuff again!
    • Block rotation - Rotate any block or piece of decor in any configuration you please. Upside-down stairs? Sure!
    • An ever expanding vault of craftables - We have a vast catalogue of blocks, items, and gadgets that make the game beautiful and fun — and we’re adding more all the time.

    Constant updates & evolving gameplay

    • We've got a ton of new content and features coming over the next 12-24 months, and our plan is to release an update every 2-3 weeks.
    • Our goal is to push the boundaries of what people expect out of a sandbox game — what you see currently is just a foundation for something much bigger.
    • We’re looking to have our players help shape the game with their valuable feedback!

  • How long will Creativerse be in alpha?

Creativerse launched in early access (essentially alpha) on Steam in August, 2014. We anticipate anywhere from 18 to 24 months to complete the alpha version.

  • How will the official version differ from the alpha?

The core game is built on three essential components: exploration, adventure, and creation. On that foundation, we'll be adding a variety of new features, systems, and content over the course of its development. We're excited to share these with you!

  • Why did you make Creativerse free to play?

In short, because we believe it is the best way to get our game into the hands of the widest audience possible.

We understand free-to-play has a bad reputation. And rightly so — the model has been abused by many companies with in-game purchases that feel greedy. But we believe there's a way to do it that won't feel sleazy, that doesn't limit how much you can play the game or get in the way of any fun you can have, but that also supports development and lets in the widest net of players into the game as possible.

Our goal is to never make players feel "pushed" to make a purchase. Games that do that kind of thing are ever present these days, especially on mobile. People are tired of experiences like that. We're taking a stand *against* that type of design. We're not interested in Pay to Play or Pay to Win. We're making a video game, not a slot machine. There are already a handful of games out there which show this kind of model can work without being exploitative (e.g. Dota 2, World of Tanks, League of Legends). We hope to follow in those footsteps with a store that avoids monetizing the core loop of the game.

  • What features are coming in the future?

Creativerse is first and foremost a sandbox where many different types of players engage with the game in their own unique ways. There are builders, fighters, crafters, explorers, tinkerers, farmers, PvPers… the list goes on! Right now we’re only satisfying a small subset of those archetypes, so our plan is to broaden our core gameplay at a regular cadence until we become the ultimate sandbox game. We have two main priorities:

    1. Dramatically expand the set of actions a player can take in Creativerse (beyond the core of exploration, adventure, and creation.) The true ambition of the sandbox genre is to create a place where anything is possible. That’s where we’re heading.
    2. Relentlessly improve the game with each release — bug fixes, frame rate, user interface, graphics, social features, audio, overall polish. Continuous improvement is crucial.

From these priorities we derive our roadmap, the sequence of releases we have planned for the future. As to what exactly these future releases will have in them, forgive us for wanting to keep a bit of the magic under wraps while we’re still working on it! We don’t think you'll be disappointed :-)

  • Do you have plans to add support for mods or a creative mode?

We're definitely interested in exploring the possibility of mods and/or a creative mode. We're also very interested in bringing Creativerse to other platforms so more of your friends can join you in the game. However, these are far out on the horizon at the moment. We're currently focused on developing the core game.

  • When will Creativerse be available on consoles or mobile?

Like mods and a creative mode, we’re very interested in bringing Creativerse to other platforms so more of your friends can join you in the game. And similarly, this is a long-term goal we won’t start tackling until well after we officially launch.

  • Are there plans to add an offline mode?

At this time we’re not planning to support offline play. Our focus is on providing effortless multiplayer for everyone with no server setup required.

  • How can I get my ideas for the game to you?

Start a new discussion thread on Steam, ideally the Suggestions subforum. We read them all and respond when we can. Or Tweet to us or post on our Facebook page.

  • I'm having an issue with Creativerse — can you help?

If you're having trouble playing the game, the best method is to post in our Bugs & Issues subforum. Include as many details as possible about your issue, your system specs and what kind of internet connection you have and we or someone from the community will attempt to help.
